The Creation

In the beginning, a being named Anu gave rise to angels and demons. A rogue demon, Lilith, and a rogue angel, Inarius, defected and together created humanity on a world known as Sanctuary.

The Ancients

The first of the Ancients are born from the union of angels and demons: Bul-Kathos, Rathma, and others.

The Prime Evils

The three most powerful demons in Hell - Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal - discover Sanctuary and plan to conquer it.

The Edyrem

The second generation of humans are born, known as the Edyrem, and one among them - Uldyssian - begins growing to unparalleled power.

Humanity is Freed

Conflict between the Prime Evils, Lilith, Inarius, and the Edyrem results in Uldyssian sacrificing himself to free humanity from angelic and demonic influence. Inarius and Lilith are banished to Hell, and the forces of both Heaven and Hell agree to leave humanity alone.

The Angiris Council

Five archangels form the Angiris Council to preside over the heavenly host: Tyrael, Malthael, Imperius, Auriel, and Ithereal. They differs on their philosophies regarding humans, which are half-demons and may serve as Hell’s greatest weapon against Heaven.

The Mage Clan Wars

Powerful mages form clans and wage war with each other. Some mages learn to summon spirits into the world - not realizing that those spirits are in fact demons from Hell.

The Rise of Religion

Akarat spreads religion throughout the world, and the Zakarum faith is ultimately founded. In time, this would give rise to Paladins and Crusaders.

The Dark Exile

A civil war in Hell results in Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto being banished to Sanctuary.

The Horadrim

The archangel Tyrael founds an order of mages known as the Horadrim and tasks them with capturing Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto into magical prisons known as soulstones.

The Horadric Cube

Horadric Mage Zoltun Kulle crafts two powerful artifacts that come to be known as the Horadric Cube and Kanai’s Cube.

Treasure Goblins

Treasure goblins serve the Baroness Greed, but who does Greed serve?

The Soulstones

The angel Izual is corrupted by the forces of Hell, and he in turn corrupts the soulstones such that these gems designed to imprison Diablo, Ball, and Mephisto, end up being a source of their power in Sanctuary.

The Skeleton King

King Leoric is subtly influenced by the Prime Evils to move his seat of power near the town of Tristram, above Diablo’s soulstone. The power of the soulstone slowly drives Leoric to madness, and ultimately, transforms him into the Skeleton King.

The Salvation of Tristram

As Diablo ravaged the town of Tristram, heroes came to put a stop to him.

The Dark Wanderer

Prince Aidan, after defeating Diablo, becomes corrupted by the Prime Evil’s influence. He heads East for mysterious purposes, leaving devastation in his wake.

The Reunion of the Prime Evils

The Prime Evils reunite and enact their nefarious plan of world domination, but five heroes unite to stop them.

The Lord of Destruction

Baal brings his army upon the barbarian people protecting the Worldstone and succeeds in corrupting the artifact. Seven heroes come to defeat him, and Tyrael must destroy the Worldstone.

The Lord of Damnation

Following the explosion of Mount Arreat, shards of the Worldstone rain down upon Sanctuary. The cult of a new demon lord seeks to retrieve them to empower their dark master, but a hero emerges to stop them.

The Witch’s Daughter

Adria’s daughter, Leah, is raised by an adoptive mother. Slowly, her powers emerge, until Uncle Deckard sweeps her away on various adventures.

The Fallen Star

Tyrael regains his form 20 years after the destruction of the Worldstone and returns to heaven. He clashes with his kin and forsakes his immortality, descending to Sanctuary as a falling star.
